Programs

Current priorities & proposed programs

The work below sets out where we intend to focus. Each area is framed as a current priority or proposal — designed with local partners and refined before delivery.

How to read this page

These are priorities and proposals, not a record of completed work. Specific activities, timelines, locations, and partners will be confirmed as programs are established with local organisations and communities.

Priority 01

Child protection

We aim to support safer environments for children by strengthening awareness, referral pathways, and coordination between families, schools, communities, and existing local services.

Regional evidence points to child protection being most effective when it is contextualised locally, coordinated across agencies, and linked to broader protection efforts (UNICEF/DFAT review). Our proposed activities follow that direction.

  • Community awareness and prevention conversations, designed with local leaders.
  • Support for clear referral pathways to official services and authorities.
  • Coordination with schools, faith and community groups, and family networks.
Priority 02

Women & girls' empowerment

We intend to back local leadership, skills, and safety for women and girls. This reflects the well-documented link in the region between ending violence against women and protecting children.

The UNICEF/DFAT review specifically identifies strengthening cooperation with work to end violence against women and girls as relevant to child protection in the Pacific (independent review).

  • Support for women-led community organisations and local leadership.
  • Opportunities that build skills, confidence, and economic participation.
  • Safe, respectful spaces connecting protection of women and children.
Priority 03

Community-led support across the Pacific

We aim to resource community-defined priorities and local organisations across Fiji and the wider Pacific — keeping decisions and delivery close to the people affected.

In 2024 Fiji's government emphasised better collaboration between Fiji and its development partners to achieve national child protection goals (Fijian Government). We want to be a constructive, locally accountable partner in that effort.

  • Small, practical support shaped by community priorities.
  • Strengthening local organisations rather than duplicating services.
  • Connecting communities with existing regional and national initiatives.
